A Slow Walk Around Parque Avellaneda

An old country house, roses, and quiet paths.

A Slow Walk Around Parque Avellaneda — Parque Avellaneda, Buenos Aires

One of the city's oldest parks, out in the west and rarely crowded. At its heart stands the Casona de los Olivera, a nineteenth century country house, with a rose garden, a plant nursery, and long tree-lined paths around it. A gentle, local place for a slow morning.

On this plan

  • Historic Casona de los Olivera
  • A rose garden
  • A plant nursery
  • Tree-lined promenades
  • Flat, easy paths
  • Local and uncrowded

Your afternoon

  1. 10:00 AM · Enter off Avenida Directorio
Step in and follow the tree-lined path.
  2. Reach the Casona de los Olivera
The old country house at the center of the park.
  3. Wander the rose garden
Slow rows of roses beside the house.
  4. Pass the plant nursery
Rows of young trees and plants in the vivero.
  5. Loop back to the gate
An easy return under the trees.

What to bring

  • Water
  • Comfortable shoes
  • Sunglasses
  • A hat
  • Camera

Getting there

Take Subte Line E toward Plaza de los Virreyes, then a short bus ride or walk along Avenida Directorio to the park. Several bus lines stop by the Avenida Lacarra gate.

This is a calm residential park, best enjoyed in daylight. Bring your own water, since there is little right by the gates, and keep to the main paths.
