A Slow Wander Through the Ecoparque — Palermo, Buenos Aires

The old Jardin Zoologico, opened in 1888, is now a free public Ecoparque in Palermo. Wander past the ornate pavilions left from its zoo years, a lake with tall fountains, and long rows of palms, with plenty of shade to slow down under. It is easy to reach off Plaza Italia and lovely on a bright weekday.

Your afternoon

  1. 10:30 AM · Enter by Plaza Italia
    Step in off the plaza and find the first row of palms.
  2. Circle the fountain lake
    Tall jets of water and an old domed pavilion across the water.
  3. Pass the historic pavilions
    Ornate buildings left from the garden's zoo years.
  4. Rest on the shaded promenade
    A quiet bench under the trees before you head out.

Getting there

Subte Line D to Plaza Italia, a two minute walk from the gate. Many buses stop along Avenida Sarmiento and Avenida Las Heras.

The park is gated and staffed, with flat paved paths. Come in daylight and check the closing time, since the gates shut in the late afternoon.
